Resistant Materials is offered by Trinity at AS and A2 Level.
Design and Technology will enable pupils to: * become discriminating citizens and customers, * have a better understanding of products and values, * develop specific technological understanding, * develop design and manufacturing skills needed to produce quality practical solutions to real problems, * stimulate their intellectual, innovative and creative abilities to generate and optimise design proposals, * develop the personal qualities needed to complete a design project from initial ideas to finished product, Students follow a carousel at KS3, which involves a 15 hour resistant materials project, a 15 hour systems and control project, and a 15 hour course in basic food preparation during the year.
For information on Food Technology click here The wide ranging Design and Technology course offered at GCSE is divided into two sections: core content and material categories.This enables them to see their own ideas come to fruition in a range of design and make tasks.Among other things, Design & Technology GCSE provides an introduction to IT, systems and control and industrial applications, together with specific knowledge and project work applicable to the subject area as required by the National Curriculum such as understanding materials and processes, drawing skills, methods of construction, modelling, and the use of CAD/CAM.These strands enable students to explore the design process and in so doing, gain a better understanding of analysis, planning and problem solving.More importantly perhaps, they also have an opportunity to develop their own creativity and making skills.We have examples of coursework from previous years on the site.As this is a practical subject, the department is often asked to make things for around the school.The deadline for the submission of completed controlled assessment samples for moderation is Friday 11th May 2018.As in 2016, the relevant covering mark sheet (DT2) and guidance notes can be downloaded and completed from the Related Documents page.These projects not only prepare the students for their GCSE coursework in Year 11 but also give them some practical knowledge of the theory work needed for the written exam that is worth 40% of the whole GCSE.In Year 11, the students work on their GCSE coursework (a design folder and piece of practical work worth 60% of their entire GCSE).
