Cultivating Situated Mindfulness in Everyday Life: A Design-Based Study of a Mobile Approach Situated mobile learning is an expanding field that places computers as mediators of our relationship with the world around us, enabling an augmented experience that changes how we experience things and in turn make meaning out of those experiences.
The dissertation asks the question, what does it mean for mobile devices that are always with us, to help us be more mindful throughout the day, especially within a context of urban living in the 21st century?
The study addresses how 21st century academics negotiate their professional identities as a complex form of emotional, intellectual, and academic labor and how this process affords the type of publicness that sometimes comes at a cost of psychological and personal wellbeing.
This dissertation demonstrates that social media can play an important role in providing and supporting newer contexts for academic identity and communication as well as promoting equity and openness in scholarly communication and evaluation.
Over time, students publish journal articles and conference papers in addition to conducting the doctoral dissertation.
Educational Design for Sustainable Resilience: A Quisitive Inquiry of Everyday Consumption There is a growing popular, academic, scientific, economic, and political consensus in support of sustainable, healthy, and pro-social production and consumption. The design-based research study involved three iterative design cycles of a mobile app with input from a group of adult users to explore how a mobile app can prompt mindfulness states throughout the day using surrounding context and mental events as the attentional focus, and end-of-day reflections incorporating forms of cognitive reappraisal and body awareness.Analysis involved self-report measures of mindfulness, behavior logs, and in-depth interview analysis, all mapped against conjectures that related design embodiments, to mediating processes, to outcomes of curiosity and decentering (two factors of a mindfulness state).PDF Perceptions of bibliotherapy: a survey of undergraduate students, Randie D.Camp PDF Exploring the relationship between attitude towards collaborative learning and sense of community among college students in online learning environments: a correlational study, Ritushree Chatterjee PDF Teacher perceptions of pedagogical change in 1:1 laptop classrooms, Jessie Marie Christensen PDF Investigating relationships between educational technology use and other instructional elements using "big data" in higher education, Karly Good PDF Understanding the use of tablet devices in the classroom when teaching a group of learners diagnosed with autism, Andrea Lynn Halabi PDF Impact of historical science short stories on students’ attitudes and NOS understanding, Garrett Taylor Hall PDF Understanding the role of the modality principle in multimedia learning environments, Amy Marie Oberfoell PDF Exploring the quality, usability, and use of learning objects in introductory statistics classrooms, Rachel Jean Graham PDF Virtual field trips as an educational and motivational strategy to teach Iowa history, Karl Harven Hehr PDF The effects of socialization on beginning science teachers' pedagogical decision making and science instruction, Lori Ihrig PDF Computer self-efficacy: instructor and student perspectives in a university setting, Kenneth D.Yusop PDF Owning professional development: The power of teacher research, Barbara Miller Adams PDF Socio-academic identities of Spanish heritage learners: instructional implications for high school Spanish teacehrs, Shelly Jeanne Boley PDF Principles for designing online self-paced corporate training, David Braet PDF A proposed methodology for predicting future student success in design programs: An application of path analysis techniques, Lori A. , Michelle Nichole Garland PDF Social justice and special education: Derailing the tracking of Black males.Brunner PDF Attitudes of general education teachers toward including students with special needs, Tracy Lynn Cagney PDF Preparing pre-service teachers for online teaching, Lily K.
